Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy, 1789

This quote is the inspiration for a new blog on various local government finance topics by Whitney Afonso, Greg Allison and Kirk Boone. ‘The public finance blog you can’t avoid’ will offer weekly postings by the three UNC School of Government faculty members, and, in addition, include guest contributors. The content covers tax policy, accounting, budgeting, appraisal, assessment, administrative issues, information on certification programs, and summaries of the latest public finance research.  The authors hope to engage the community of finance,  budget, and assessment professionals throughout and beyond the state of North Carolina.
