Death & Taxes

The Public Finance Blog You Can't Avoid

About

The law constrains what governments can and cannot do, which is critical information. The School of Government embodies the importance of law and practical scholarship in local government. Whitney Afonso, Greg Allison, and Kirk Boone will use Death & Taxes to focus on the much needed nonlegal (as opposed to illegal) conversations relating to public finance, governmental accounting, property tax appraisal, budgeting, and so much more. We believe that not only what a government can do is significant, but it is also very important to understand how it can be done, why it is done, and what to expect when it is done.

Death & Taxes will present information on tax policy, governmental accounting and financial reporting, related academic research, and lessons from public finance successes and failures. We (and the occasional guest authors) will be pulling from expertise within North Carolina but also looking for insights from beyond our borders. We are excited to share this blog. We really do want Death & Taxes to be the public finance blog you can’t avoid.
